Litezkeen eta akaso ez litezkeen materia guztien artean isiltasuna dugu azkenaldian gehien aldatu duenetarikoa.
Gai hau paradoxa deigarriak eta poetikoak begietaratzeko erabili da gehienbat. “Isiltasun adierazgarria” edo “isiltasun gorgarria” bezalako espresioak ohikoak dira eguneroko jardunean zein literaturan. Schopenhauerren ustez, konparazione, isiltasuna garrasirik indartsuena da. Isiltasun esanahitsu honen gailurra seguruena maitasunezko poesian aurki daiteke. Remix liriko bat egin nahi bagenu (Espainiako Urrezko Mendearen bi egileren bertso-lerroak besterik ez nahastuta) honako arrazoibidea eskura genezake: “Nire isiltasunari galde egiozu, zeina ni baino dotoreago mintzo baita; isiltasunak isilik asko esaten du, maitaleen hizkuntza horixe baita eta nire isiltasunak ez badu txintik atera nik ez dakit zer gehiago esan(1)”.
Iraganeko isiltasun honen ezaugarririk behinena unibokoa edo adiera bakarrekoa dela litzateke. Isilik dagoenak gauza bat eta bakarra esan ohi du. Egun, berriz, Postmoderniaren sagarrondoaren fruitua dastatu dugunetik hona, errugabetasuna ezinezkoa bihurtuta, isiltasuna askotariko esanahiez bete da, norberak ohartuki esan nahi lukeenetik haratago(2).
Konpromisoaren gaia ateratzen denean nabarmenagoa da hori. Denok argi daukagu, norberak esaten duena esaten duela, zerbait esaten ari garela dena delako gaiaren inguruan. Diogunak bezainbeste salatzen gaitu zer uzten dugun aipatu gabe. Botereek askotan omisioz dihardute (ikusi, adibidez, eta besteak beste, AskeGunearen inguruan EiTBren isiltasun politika).
Isiltasunaren natura polimorfoa denez, Laboak abestutako galdera, “zer dio isiltzen denak isiltzen denean?”, ez zaigu inondik inora nahikoa. Zabaldu behar dugu.
Denok gauza bera esaten dugu isiltzen garenean? Uxue Apaolaza parafraseatuz, zer (ez) dio isilik dagoen bakoitzak, isiltasuna askorena denean? Zeinek, zer botere-gunek, erabakitzen du zertaz isiltzen ari garen isiltzen garenean? Berdin isiltzen gara denok? Posible da hizkuntza ezberdinetan ere isiltzea? Hots, dakizkigun hizkuntza guztietan gauza bera ari gara ez esaten, haietako batean zerbait esatea erabaki (konpromiso jakin baten aldeko hautua egin) dugunean? Tokiaren araberako isiltasunik ere badago, esanahiaz aldatzen dena? Eta denboraren araberakorik? XVI. mendeko Sevillan gaztelaniaz zertaz ari ziren zehazki ez idazten? Arraza beltzekoen zapalkuntzaz(3)? Bekatu aipaezinaz(4)? Zer esaten ariko naiz bihar gaur esaten ez naizenarekin?
