- On 15 May, the Ertzaintza arrested Urtza Alkorta in Ondarroa on the orders of the Spanish Supreme Court of Justice. Journalists Axier López and Lander Arbelaitz have gathered on the Argia website spectacular images of the “popular wall” that hundreds of citizens have created around them.
On May 15, the Ertzaintza mobilized over 30 vans and hundreds of agents to stop Urtza Alkorta in the Donostia district. The neighbour of Ondarroa has been sentenced by the Supreme Court to five years in prison for cooperating with ETA members. Alkorta was arrested in 2010 by the Ertzaintza and reported having been subjected to ill-treatment for the time he was in his hands: “In the end you accept what they think, because you’re looking forward to ending,” he said.
In Ondarroa, hundreds of people formed a "popular wall" around Alkorta, with civil disobedience and peaceful protest, to make detention difficult. The Ertzaintza stayed for three and a half hours evicting the Alameda Bridge, dragging people and twisting the various parts of the body. Several people were also arrested because of this resistance, which carried out several arrests.
Argia journalist Lander Arbelaitz and Axier López were on the bridge collecting what was happening, and the compilation of those images can be seen on their blogs.
