The anti-power union: abertzale and anti-capitalist
Iberdrola President Sánchez Galán has just said that trade unions are more necessary than ever before. The vision of the trade unions in Galán, which has met with the world capitalist elite in the city of Davos, has nothing to do with the union model that promotes the Abertzale syndicalism, in chapter 13 of the ELA. As you've seen in Congress. Like the elites of Davos, Galán wants the unions to become “mattresses” of capital, fallen into the bureaucracy, adulted, subsidised… He wants unions that do not call the capitalist system into question. On the other hand, aware that in the future there will be more unemployment, more poverty and more social cuts, in the ELA Congress they demanded an Abertzale and anti-capitalist syndicalism that opposes capitalist politics and the politicians who support it.
ELA, with a force of 105,312 members, has opted for a process that leads to union unity in the defense of social justice and has asked the institutions to “plant the decrees of the Government of Spain, because they only represent a cut in rights and an increase in social disprotection”. According to the union, “disobeying is a commitment to sovereignty and adds to the aspirations and needs of the majority of society”. It is a tough and difficult bet, but not only of ELA, but also of the other Basque unions; union action could be the basis of unity of action in the future. The five general strikes that have taken place in the last three years are a guarantee of this.
The Jesuit Valentín Bengoa, already retired, humble and prudent leader of ELA, has a lot to do with the nationalism and anti-capitalist union. It would be worthwhile to pay tribute to and acknowledge citizenship!
