A work team from the Autonomous University of Mexico City has analyzed the materials used by birds, mainly gorrions and finches, for the construction of their nests.
In 89% of the Gorrion nests and 86% of the finch nests, the squatting cellulose has been located, and the team led by Montserrat Suárez Rodríguez has searched for the causes. The first opinions point out that the cellulose they place in their nests has had a close relationship with nicotine, which rubs certain mites and parasites, birds and their puppies can live much more tranquil in their nests, while others have said that birds use the cellulose that has been in contact with nicotine as self-medication.
But researchers have also found a lot of pesticides in their nests. The advantage that cellulose can bring can be left to nothing by pesticides.
