Three reflections for the new era
The CAV and Jeltzales polls have been easily imposed. There will therefore be not much adventure wind in the corners of the territory, but there will certainly be changes in EiTB before the afternoon. Three thoughts on this.
– EiTB is a public body, but that does not mean that it should be subject to the electoral results that can be given at any given time. It is time to renew the broad consensus on its nature and function (we are not on the same stage as 30 years ago) and, once achieved, measures should be promoted to strengthen its autonomy with regard to political power.
– EiTB should no longer be the tool to justify the diglossia, some of its media should no longer speak in Spanish, concealing a linguistic reality to a large section of the population and offering a cane to live comfortably in monolingualism. Returning to television, let us think, following the approach of Josu Amezaga, not only the Basque language community, but the multilingual ETB, which will be a fundamental tool to articulate the whole society, which will have as its main axis the Basque language and which will attract to its programming those who do not know Euskera (dual audio, subtitles) taking advantage of the possibilities we have today.
– In order to make it the main tool of backbone and indisputable reference of Basque society in these times of multi-offer, EiTB needs to continue building community and further entrenching its roots, and to strengthen ties with local TV can do so (either by means of disconnections or by the construction of a two-storey house inspired by Tokikom).
