The deception of DTT

In 2008, we said in Argia that TDT was an unsolicited revolution. Today we can continue to say that DTT came to us without having asked for it, but there is no trace of the revolution.

TDT was not established by public demand, but by the need to optimize the radio spectrum. Stay, in two words. But they told us that the change to make inevitably would bring us many advantages: better image and sound quality, high-resolution performances, greater supply...

At the moment, what we have is that, on the one hand, most of the actions that are sold as high-definition are not high-definition, but large-format. It improves signal quality, but that's not HD.

On the other hand, the offer is not wider. Well, broader, but not more plural. The main operators emit more channels, but basically they offer the same programming in all of them. It is true that new chains have emerged and the ideological field has opened up... but to the far-right. Specialist chains, on the other hand, are virtually non-existent if tarot 24 hours and telephone competition fraud are not considered to be specialising. What has improved has been programming specifically aimed at children, who now have whole chains for them. The only ones who have reason to be satisfied with TDT are children and facets.

And now the digital dividend. TDT was implemented to optimize the radio spectrum, but more space is still needed. Telecommunications companies need this space to offer broadband services (especially 4G), they argue that televisions have the possibility to broadcast by satellite or cable, but that they need terrestrial spectrum and not. Thus, the European Union ordered the eviction of part of the spectrum for use by telecommunications companies.

In many countries, the liberated spectrum, which is what is called the digital dividend, has been auctioned so that the telecommunications operators who want to use, if one can say, can put money in return. In the Spanish State, the government has raised around EUR 1.8 billion in this way. Part of what was expected, 300 million, would be used for antenna conditioning. In fact, the antennas of more than a million buildings in the Spanish State will have to be adapted, as the chains have changed their place. But the PP government has said that everyone has to pay for their own pocket, for the economic crisis they are suffering from. The money obtained from the dividend auction will be used for other purposes.
