Each year, the production of PCs, mobile phones, tablets and other electronic and electrical equipment is carried out with 320 tons of gold and 7,500 tons of silver. Around EUR 16 billion is wasted each year in the management of these metals, and more or less a similar amount goes to landfills with their appliances.
In landfills, even if it sounds like a lie, there are 50 times richer than the deposits of metals that are exploited in mines. In a context of crisis such as the present, and taking into account the prices of these metals, the extraction of gold and silver in electronic landfills can be a big business. Furthermore, we must not forget the importance of recycling for our ecosystem.
