Editorial Peninsula, 2011. 271 pages.
Pascual Serrano (Valencia, 1964) is a journalist specialized in media analysis. Creator of Rebellion on the Internet and author of several essays that critically analyze journalism actual.En his book Against Neutrality, attacks the idea of equidistant journalism. At this time when there is so much talk about the destiny of this profession, Serrano has avoided the debate about business models and new supports, and goes directly to the very essence of the trade: What and how should journalists talk about?
To defend the value of journalism advocating for a cause, the author has compiled, albeit briefly, the biographies of the five largest journalists of the twentieth century. John Reed, Ryszard Kapuściński, Rodoldo Walsh, Edgar Snow and Robert Capa were the five who reported the closest conflicts, the first four through the words and images the fifth, and all coincided with one of the parties in these conflicts, but Serrano believes that the journalism work obeys only the clumsy: On the contrary, their chronicles, books, photographs have a difficult component to find today: the heart. The main thesis of Contra neutrality is that journalism is a much better tool to understand the world than the one constantly looking for a supposed center.
