“Bildu is demonstrating that other policies can be made”

What do you think of the policy that Bildu has done so far? Especially in the City Hall of Donostia-San Sebastián and in the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa.

First of all, it is worth remembering the situation in which the Basque Left came to these elections, as well as the management of those institutions which Bildu governs. The making of candidatures under the application of the Parties Act forced us to establish people with no experience in management, so there are clear signs. However, the assessment is positive. In the institutions governed by Bildu we have been able to form quite good groups. This has, of course, required – because many elects had already been elected for the first time – to work with advisory groups. It must be borne in mind that we have moved from working very quickly in a kind of resistance to governing the City Hall of Donostia and the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa. There has been a leap, however, we are doing politics and with positive results. Bildu is also demonstrating that other policies can be made.

For example, we are told that we don't have a program and it's fake. Reality shows that the other parties do not agree with what we are doing, and in a sense it may be a bit logical, but the position adopted by PNV, PSE and PP in Donostia-San Sebastián and in the province is not an opposition policy, which is legitimate, but an attitude of blocking. In the end, however, all this will go against your approach, because people have realised that there are new wills and approaches to moving politics forward. To put it in a positive way: in view of the forthcoming elections, the attitudes of these parties towards the Abertzale left will give us the opportunity to have a majority. In fact, for example, they say that “Bildu has not done fiscal reform.” For citizens will give us more confidence, for example, in the two or three seats we are missing in the General Meetings, and they will see if we are able to carry out the Tax Reform. Both this reform and that of making progressive policies in other areas.
