Last week, the Biscay Treasury spoke of tax fraud, and the Basque trade unions complained that this is tax fraud in the Autonomous Community. A fair and supportive tax policy should be based primarily on the elimination of tax fraud and tax leakage. Politicians know where they are, but they do nothing to eliminate them. These niches of fraud (entrepreneurs, great fortunes, stock exchanges, notaries, doctors, dentists, architects, engineers, registrars, athletes…) can be the subject of a veracious, forceful and continuous analysis of the EUR 13 billion escaped by tax fraud in Hego Euskal Herria. The PSE acknowledges that tax fraud in the CVD is 20% of GDP, i.e. between EUR 2 billion and EUR 2.5 billion per year. But, according to experts, 20% of CAV’s GDP is EUR 13 billion, almost half of which is Bizkaia.
If we really want to curb this fiscal drain, institutional collaboration is needed to share data and statistics. Not to opt for that direction is to continue to favour tax fraud and money evasion. Some foreign institutions say that if they are forced to pay more to those who have the most, they are going to leave. It's completely false. The money that has ceased to be raised, in the pocket of capital, has only served to speculate and tax evasion. Politicians, together with the social and economic players, should carry out real tax reform in the Basque Country. A reform is needed that will lead to a very profound change. The names of scammers and tax fugitives must be published, because they are criminals. Only in this way will we succeed in making progress in economic growth, in the fair distribution of wealth and in creating jobs.
