French beekeepers burn
In France, a pesticide called Cruiser OSR has been approved to protect the seeds of rape from insects and fungi. The pesticide produced by the Swiss company Syngenta is based on three substances: the insecticide Thiamethoxam and the fungicides Fludioxonil and Metalaxyl.
The French National Beekeeping Association has started to heat red light because of the influence this pesticide can have on bees. In their opinion, OSR Cruiser would be a negative factor for bees in such a serious situation at the moment.
But not everyone is of the same opinion. According to the National Health Safety Agency (ANSES), the pesticide will not affect bee colonies, which are currently in good health. It is said that the overall number of bees has not changed too much in recent years, but that the distribution patterns of populations have changed: they have multiplied a great deal in the urban environment and have fallen a great deal in rural areas. The debate is open.
