Searching for genes “to blame” for osteoporosis
A group of researchers from the University of Granada (Spain), after analyzing the medical records of more than 2,000 women exposed to gynecological consultations with symptoms of osteoporosis, have found signs of certain specific genes, mainly related to hip fractures.
More than 100,000 people suffer from hip fractures every year in Spain, and most cases are related to osteoporosis. Researchers say that it is still too early to fully ensure that the results obtained are correct, but the probability of it being so is very high. This would open up avenues for preventive action.
