Salaries imposed by Merkel
With Angela Merkel as spokesperson and Nicolas Sarkozy as puppet, the “Markets” have imposed pension reform, and now it’s time for collective bargaining. This reform includes salaries. Merkel made her position clear, which she wants to establish for the rest of the European Union (EU), on the other hand. In the EU, the Competitiveness Pact is being negotiated on six points: abandoning the thesis that wages must be raised in line with inflation and linking them to productivity; including debt and deficit limits in constitutions; facilitating labour mobility; delaying the retirement age in line with demographic developments; harmonising the basic tax on associations; and establishing a mechanism for resolving banking crises.
The Spanish State has begun to fulfill these domestic tasks that have been imposed on it: the reforms of jobs and pensions. And now the reform of collective bargaining will begin, with the way in which wages are established included. Merkel, with Sarkozy's help, has already said what needs to be done in this area. Wages must be linked to the productivity of the company and not to inflation, as has been the case so far. Immediately, the Bank of Spain, CEOE, BBVA, the Government of Spain and the PNV – which Bilbao spoke about – have endorsed Merkel’s recipe and are trying to impose it on the unions. The CCOO and the UGT, as always, have said “don’t even think about it”, that they will not go through it. And they recall that the model adopted in the Spanish State includes the harmonic forecast of inflation, the revision clause and the negotiated distribution of productivity. Well, these unions also said that they wouldn’t go through a 67 year postponement of the jubilee. And they passed! And smiling, they photographed him next to King Bourbon. And now they're going to go through with the salaries, and tomorrow with the health drink. Meanwhile, Basque workers will continue to suffer the consequences of their dependence on Madrid and Paris.
