I have friends, writers, and poets. And I also have friends who confess to being writers and poets. And in general, one thing drives them to write: because they have the pleasure to take, because they have something to say, because they feel the need to communicate, because they understand that they have taken another step in their career or their experiences, and because they are looking for a concrete form. In short, these would be the reasons I have heard them under the sound of a coffee or in front of the microphone. But deep down, there is experience. The experience. And the reality; which, however, is one, has been received and interpreted by each one of that fact or not. One of his own. The way, form and form in which this experience is conveyed are, in turn, the choice – with more or less skill – of both the writer and

the poet. The poet, in general, as Beñat says, could be said to look even more at form or beauty. Almost to the point of lying or at least disguising the truth. But I don't think it's the ultimate goal. I mean, change is beginning to be highlighted in literature, and even poets, even poetry, have tended to undress their minds and hearts before they get to undress beauty. The reader, on the other hand, is immensely grateful.

In other words, the poets show themselves more musically and mammatically; and as a result, they become closer.

Although there is a difference, the difference between writers and poets is more obvious, although according to what the poets say, when choosing the genre, the difference, “is there”. During these days of the Durango Fair we have found, in the words of the writer and poet of several books presented throughout the year, books –and poetry books– written “I have been guided by pain”, “I have sung
suffering” or “to overcome suffering”. And because with the appearance of this suffering is the criticism that the work has become more beautiful and/or “consolidate the style”. Suffering, in fact, has always been an unsatisfactory source for literature and a nest of creativity for writers and poets.

However, it is necessary to distinguish between beauty and the message, the form and the content. It seems that those who aspire to beauty need a tendency to disguise the message. Or that those who prioritize beauty mock the message. And although this has been the case in the past, among the main reasons, for the lack of a direct way of acting or of the least freedom, today we have more and more writers and even poets who, fortunately, without ignoring beauty, of course, and who, despite having this discovery as their goal, approach the message in a more direct way. And we have examples of this in Basque literature.

The question now is whether the issues to be dealt with more directly should be easily captured or require more intellectual effort. I think that love (to mention one) has never been a subject that requires a special intellectual intelligence and that in form, perhaps, it has been the most disguised. That is, that the most beautiful lies and the smallest truths have probably been written around this topic.
Pain is beautiful and it is necessary to “make it true”, both for literature and for the poet. Reader, go without forgetting.
