Iñaki Beobide, former director of the theatre group Continue in Nueva: "To create, to create, is a pure thing: The language... the language. The first reason for the creation of Continue was Basque. Our first theaters were read, in 1958, sitting at a long table and reading each other’s role. There wasn’t anything until the 60’s, when the school was born. In San Sebastián there was very little Basque, and we were a few eccentrics from the villages; a kind of company was born and the group came out (...) What happens is that the demands are greater. We used to do theater wherever we could. Today, there are a thousand other things. Some of these professional groups prepare all the plays in Basque. That is because they have to earn money, because they want to live there; they are forced to do so because they are involved in it."
