We recently received a complaint from three mothers from Usurbil (Gipuzkoa) in this corner. Newborn children could not be registered in Basque in their country. In 2005, the Spanish State Registers Act recognized the right to register births, deaths and marriages in Basque. In practice, however, this could only be done in the fourteen village heads of Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa. It seems that more than 200 of the computer systems of the Justices of Peace were not prepared to make records in Basque. It is said that this will be the way to exercise the right recognized in 2005 before the end of the year.
