Film Festival 2010-Zabaltegi
The public is a fool
  • And that is why he has not understood/valued my great work. Under the pretext of general cultural ignorance, several directors justify their film not being liked by the audience. All right, festival cinema is usually different, less commercial and chewed, and requires attention and effort from the viewer, but there has also been a frank neglect in the name of experimentation. That’s why it’s so good when critics and audiences come together, because a work without quality won’t last long in history, but even the one who doesn’t have an audience won’t go far.

This year’s edition has achieved this unity in general: Nine of the twelve films nominated for the Audience Award have received more than 7 ratings from the audience. At the same time, these films have been praised by critics in general. With a score of 8,879, Barney’s Version has been the winner of the public. Fine poetry, the curious Tuan Yuan, the wild Carancho I would put before me, but I also liked Barney’s Version: The dramatic comedy tells the story of the vicious and alcoholic Barney Panofsky, whose work is excellent, especially that of the great protagonist Paul Giamatti.

It is also worth mentioning that the documentary has had a leading role this year. We’re thankful that we’ve seen beautiful, well-crafted works that speak to reality: such as the traveler Guest, The Oath starring Bin Laden’s former bodyguard, and the bitter remembrance of Saturraran’s prison.
