The rescuers who protest in the Zurriola denounce that they have been taken off the banners and have been fined
  • The rescuers started the strike on June 15, and since then they have concentrated every day between 8:00 and 20:00 on the beach of La Zurriola. Yesterday, however, it was different. The emergency responders of Donostia-San Sebastian on strike have reported that at 12:00 hours troops have been displaced from the Municipal Police to the two rescuers. “They told us that if we had put the hat on like the previous days, we would be fined, also if we were with banners and we didn’t want to take them off.”

The rescuers decided not to withdraw the banners and were fined for “occupying public space without permission or concession”. In addition, the cleaning company FCC was ordered to remove the banners found on the site and at 16:00 hours they appeared to perform the work. Once again, the Municipal Police officers came to the scene and asked them again if they were going to withdraw the banners. At the time of the refusal, the rescuers were identified again. “They spoke to us in a very bad way this afternoon and told us that, if they wanted, they were going to put another complaint to us, even if they didn’t do anything at all,” they explained.

On June 15, they asked for permission to protest and to place the banners on the streets of the town. They have therefore underlined their intention to continue the protest. IRUTXULOKO HITZA met former rescuers Jon Gorospe and Jon Ibarguren to discuss the reasons for the strike and the situation of the rescuers.
