"In the Chantrea we don't have big problems parking and yet they want to force us to pay for parking, both neighbors and merchants: it's going to be a disaster for the neighborhood's shops." Birjiñe Albira, spokesperson for the platform created in Txantrea against the blue zone, explained this to the microphones of Euskalerria Irratia.

"The City Hall has turned its back on us"

The platform has asked the City Hall for a participatory process on the blue space, and has collected 4,500 signatures among the blacksmiths who support it. "But the City Hall has turned its back on us, arguing that there was a formal defect in the petition," Albira explained.

The City Hall workers have painted blue stripes on the streets of the Txantrea in recent days. On Tuesday, however, the marros have reappeared painted white. "It was not us, but in the situation we are living in, we find it understandable that some neighbours should take such measures. It's a symptom of the situation," Albira said.
