The mobilization was called by the Antitaurine Platform of Gipuzkoa under the motto “It is not culture is torture”. The Big Week of Donostia will again host bullfights on 15.16 and 17 August in the bullring of Illunbe. At the demonstration, they were collecting signatures to promote a People's Legislative Initiative (ILP).
On Sunday, the Gipuzkoa Anti-Bullfighting Platform convened a demonstration against bullfighting in Gipuzkoa Square. The Aste Nagusia de Donostia will host the bullfights, which will be held on 15.16 and 17 August. These activities have been denounced in the mobilization, under the motto “It is not culture is torture”.
Donostia Antitaurina Orain won in 2017 the right to hold a popular consultation on the bullfighting use of Illumbe. From Madrid he refused to carry out this consultation, but the mayor, Eneko Goia, promised that he would find ways to get to know the opinion of the Donostiarras. This order was not complied with in 2024.
These signatures are intended to promote an ILP, i.e. a People's Legislative Initiative. Today, Tauromaquia is legally established as a cultural heritage. As a heritage site, it receives all kinds of public aid and, on the other hand, the work of those peoples and autonomous communities who wish to ban or restrict bullfighting is blocked. Precisely, the aim of this ILP is to cease being cultural heritage to the Tauromaquias.
