Those responsible for the Zaldibar landfill have been arrested
  • Arrate Bilbao, manager of Verter Recycling 2002, and Juan Etxebarria, infrastructure engineer, have been arrested on 21 July. The arrests have taken place in the framework of one of the two investigations opened in the courts following the fall of the Zaldibar dump. They are at the Eibar police station and the judge will decide what to do with those arrested after appearing before the judge on Thursday.

Two courts investigate whether there was a crime at the Zaldibar landfill, where it fell on 6 February, and two are investigating. Two workers were surprised by a 1.5 million tonne waste leap and fell to the freeway; in the following week investigations began the courts: The Durango Court, which investigates whether there is a crime against the environment, has at first reported that the judge ordered the arrest of the three charges with responsibility in the company Verter, whose arrests are attributed on the initiative of the Ertzaintza. The Eibar Court, for its part, investigates whether there has been any kind of crime against the safety of persons.

Urkullu and Arriola cancelled their visit to Zaldibar on that day

According to reports in Berria, journalists Mikel Peruarena and Imano Magro, the acting lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, and the Environment Minister, Iñaki Arriola, planned a visit to Zaldibar on 21 July, but suspended it when the arrests were known. Arriola already knows Barinaga, who has recently been arrested in the Foral Community of Navarra.
