- Ecologists in Action reported that in 2019 the Basque Government discovered serious irregularities in the inspection carried out at the Eitzaga landfill in Zaldibar (Bizkaia). A copy of the report prepared by the Basque Government Inspectorate has been disseminated on social networks.
According to file AI00006/4S (pdf), dated 9 November 2019, the inspector of the Department of the Environment of the Basque Government visited the Zaldibar landfill. It was a visit previously notified to the company, with a scheduled audit, and yet the company Verter Recycling did not manage to have the inspection taken for granted.
Of the five scores that the inspection can give on the level of compliance with the authorizations, from a positive to a negative level of compliance, the inspector of Zaldibar gave him the worst note: as it is clear in the document itself, this poor note indicates that a manifest or serious error has been found in the company in the degree of compliance with the authorization.
The authorities shall explain the status of this dossier.
