It is a project conceived before the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the pandemic has severely hit nursing homes, which have caused the most deaths, the loneliness of older people living in nursing homes is already a serious problem.
The first test of the “Proyecto Soledad” was carried out at the residence San Manuel and San Severino de Tafalla for three months. Nine residents, two days a week, have been attended by the workers of the company Familiados. According to the psychologist Nuria Carcavilla, who works on the project, through the mutual knowledge between the companion and the resident, the activities that will be carried out during the duration of the project are fixed. They are varied activities, but mainly related to communication and relationships.
The idea is to create a practical guide to the project and to extend this initiative to other centres. At the moment, several residences and 18 residents will participate. The Government of Navarra has granted aid of EUR 62,000 to this project.
