- Pensioners have mobilized on Monday in the capitals and villages of the CAV and Navarra. Elderly people who died in the accident were mentioned at the event. In this respect, they have warned that they will not accept cuts in social expenditure or pensions.
Reviving the pre-confinement dynamics, as well as in the capitals, mobilizations have been carried out in dozens of towns, albeit conditioned by security measures and the health crisis. Conditions and deaths in nursing homes have been very present in the mobilizations. Last week it was known that since May there have been 1,912 fewer pensioners in the CVA due to the pandemic.
About 200 people have concentrated on the new plaza called by Arabako Pentsionistak Martxan in Vitoria-Gasteiz, to protest pensions. The Álava Pensioners Association has announced that in the coming days it will present papers at the Ararteko and the Prosecutor’s Office. Both institutions are asked to investigate nursing homes.
The motto of Donostia’s call has been “Elderly dependents at home and residences, life and dignity”. In Bilbao, the spokeswoman, Andrea Uña, explained that there is still not enough information about what is happening in residences. The Health Advisor, Nekane Murga, the Social Policy Counsellor, Beatriz Artolazabal, and the Deputy General, Unai Rementeria, have received by letter data from the Biscayan pensioners, who have not received a reply but will not stop until they receive them.

Uña has warned that pensions will not be viable in the next economic crisis. It indicates that there are resources and that they will not accept cuts: “We will not allow them to be always equal in the public, both in health and in pensions.” On the contrary, the Biscayan pensioners have asked for an increase in investments in homes or in home care, and they have ensured that they will remain on the streets to reclaim it.
