This Thursday morning, the vote was taken to set up the Anti-corruption Office. Following the intervention in the Basque Parliament, EH Member Bildu Larraitz Ugarte has expressed her satisfaction that “it will allow the investigation, prosecution and punishment of corrupt illegal activities and inappropriate practices”.
The initial report contained an analysis of the movements of the CAV's foreign deputies. In July, the deputies brought to the Arbitration Commission of the Basque Country the proposal of EH Bildu. The Commission allowed an office to be set up, although it was considered necessary to amend the point at which control of the Members of Parliament was established. Ugarte has asked the other parties not to "put more obstacles" and not to "put more obstacles".
There have been many cases of corruption in the Spanish State, but there have also been some cases of such scandal in the CAV. The De Miguel case was the largest corruption case in the Autonomous Community, with 26 defendants and more than a hundred witnesses. In addition, there are other cases: In 2013, the Basque Court of Public Accounts (TSJPV) identified deficiencies in the company’s accounts. The Mayor of Donostia-San Sebastian, Eneko Goia, had to testify last September 13 to this case of machista violence. The latest case of corruption has been the irregularity in the Osakidetza OPERs, which have not been corrected. Xabier Balerdi, then head of Osakidetza, resigned on 3 September.
