The workers of the company subcontracted by the Elai Service of Hondarribia have been on strike for 115 days and after reaching an agreement they have returned to work on 29 August. They have managed to reduce the annual working day to 108 hours and increase the average wage by 20%. In addition, ELA clarifies that the company has donated the money it owed to 8 workers, as well as the cancellation of the compensation and absorption clauses.
Elai Serbitzua says that the company has been “disappeared from the table” and that in the end it has had to accept the workers’ “request” on 20 March. He adds that the change in municipal government has affected: “The group that entered the Municipal Government on May 29 (Abotsanitz) has had a radically different attitude from the PNV so far.”
It considers that the workers’ agreement is “very positive” and stresses that by “reconciling” the workers’ struggle with political will, government subcontractors can achieve “decent conditions”.
