Urkullu: "The priority of the Basque Country is to contain and mitigate the virus"
  • "The priority now is to help families who are suffering the hardest consequences of the pandemic, to strengthen socio-health professional coverage, to care for the elderly and the most vulnerable," said CAV President Iñigo Urkullu, at the meeting convened this Sunday by Spanish President Pedro Sánchez, with the regional presidents.

Urkullu has begun his speech on videoconferencing, taking stock of the situation in which he is currently. As explained, the evolution of the contamination curve, the hospital balance that exceeds the discharges of hospitalization and the rate of occupancy of ICU beds describe a positive change in trend.

Furthermore, it added that a "shared return to normal plan" is needed to allow a gradual departure from confinement and cessation of activity. As he explained, the opening of traffic, transport, business, education, leisure, sports or cultural activities must be preceded by "situations of gradual recovery". "We have another two weeks to prepare the plan," he said.

Precisely, the Spanish Government endorsed the decision to extend the state of alarm until 26 April and thanked Pedro Sánchez for his "flexibility" in paralysing economic activity.
