They call to protect Uribe Kosta's 'Hiruka' media
  • On Saturday morning, we put an end to the "You are the key!" Campaign for the TRIO through a simple act. Some 50 people met in the Old Port of Algorta to show their support for this communication project, in a year that will be "vital" for us.

Council Secretary General Paul Bilbao and former TRIO member Ninbe Landa read a statement. "The Basques of Uribe Kosta have been and will be the key for the TRIO to last and today we have joined here to reclaim it," they said. Previously, Irantzu Sagarminaga, vice-president of the HIRUKA cooperative, recalled that in mid-November "You are the key!" was launched. the campaign has not fully met the initial target (achieving 333 Hirukalagun). Therefore, they invited to support the Uribekostarras who want to "live and think about Euskera".

They also stressed that a new era for the project has been initiated. The economic situation has forced HIRUKA to take a number of measures, some of which are "very painful", including that the printed edition is no longer temporary per week. So the magazine that will be on the street at the end of this week will be a monthly magazine of 48 pages each. In any case, we will maintain the commitment to report minute by minute via the web and will continue to offer the cultural events agenda of the region in the HIRUKA app for mobile devices.

We are the key!

A few months ago the communication group HIRUKA added a motto to its name. “Press in Euskera, think about Euskera,” that slogan says. At the end of the fall, Euskaraldia challenged us to change language habits. Thanks to this exercise, many Euskaldunes of Uribe Kosta were able to know how difficult it is to carry out good intentions towards the Basque country, even more so in a region that has been so proud of Castilian for years.

The people who want to think about Basque need press in Basque. It's inevitable. But in making the leap from Castilian to Euskera, one of the biggest obstacles for Euskaldunes to win is media consumption. However, more than two decades ago in Uribe Kosta there are local media in Basque and work with dignity.

The heir to this tradition is the HIRUKA communication group that today called us to join us here. The project is in a critical situation, but not for lack of desire or ideas. In Uribe Kosta it is possible to have a quality local Basque media, with the necessary support. If so far the road has been made, it has been thanks to the support of eleven Euskaltzales who wanted to join the initiative. That will continue to be the case. That is what HIRUKA has reminded us in the last two months, through the campaign “You are the key!”

The Basques of Uribe Kosta have been and will be the key for HIRUKA to continue, and today we have met here to claim it. This year, which will be vital for the project, we reaffirm our support and invite all Uribekostarras who want to think and live in Euskera to start along the same path.
