Urchueguia, former mayor of the PSE-EE of Lasarte-Oria, acknowledges having committed crimes with funds for Nicaragua for years

The former mayor of Lasarte-Oria, Ana Urchueguia, will not have to go to jail for misusing funds for Somoto (Nicaragua). The former mayor of the PSE-EE has reached an agreement with the Prosecutor’s Office and the accusations recognising the commission of crimes.

Lasarte-Oria is twinned with the Nicaraguan people of Somoto and sent grants for cooperation projects. However, according to the signed document, this money was not used for these projects. He says that in 81 cases he prevailed and in 39 he misused the money.

Urchueguia will receive an 18 year disqualification penalty and will pay a fine of €2,160 if the agreement is approved by the Territorial Court of Gipuzkoa.

Urchuegia was mayor of Lasarte-Oria for twenty-four years, from 1986 to 2010. During that time he held more political office: he was senator of the Spanish Parliament, member of the General Boards of Gipuzkoa and senior official of the Basque Government. In 2010, Patxi López was appointed delegate of Chile and Peru, until 2013.
