At the level of the French State, equally or even stronger, the people have stood up to the far-right. In Ipar Euskal Herria, a wall has been imposed on homophobic and racist discourses. "We have denied the far right to dance," said the members of the left-wing coalition Frente Popular Nuevo, at midnight on the coast of Lapurdi on Sunday, when they had just confirmed that their candidate, Peio Dufau, was leaving for Paris confirming that the Ensemble of Macron had been imposed.

The New People’s Front coalition has imposed itself on the National Union easier than in the first round of the elections. In the second round, the difference has been 30,000 votes. That is, from one turn to the other, the left has tripled the distance to the far-right.

The New Popular Front is imposed in 142 of the 160 municipalities of Zuberoa

The three Members attending the French National Assembly of the three constituencies in Iparralde and Bearn will be from the New Popular Front: Socialists Iñaki Echaniz and Colette Capdevielle from the fourth and fifth constituencies, and Abertzale Peio Dufau from the sixth.

These three candidates have multiplied the differences in voting between extreme right-wing and ultra-right opponents. In the fourth constituency, Echaniz won the National Union with 11,000 votes, which made it a difference of 7,000 in the first round; in the fifth, Capdevielle has won the 3,000 votes in the first round by 16,000; and Dufau, in the sixth constituency, has doubled the difference from 3,000 to 6,000 votes.

Electoral district 4: Echaniz, with half the votes

The participation in the constituency of Zuberoa, Baja Navarra, Hazparne and some towns of Bearn was 73.9%, almost a higher point than that of the first round. Compared to the legislative elections of 2022, the turnout has risen by nearly 20 points.

With even greater mastery than in the first lap, the victory has been for Iñaki Echaniz, of the New Popular Front. The vote rate has risen by 10 points, almost 6,000 more votes, to a total of 27,000 votes. It has obtained almost half of the votes in the constituency, according to the information provided.

However, the two right-wing and right-wing opponents have also risen in absolute numbers of votes and votes in favour. But not as much as Echaniz: between the two the rise was not 5,000 votes.

Constituency No 5: Capdevielle, shaken

In this district that covers the large cities on the coast, such as Baiona or Angelu, and the towns of the interior, the National Union has only won in Gixune, for a very small margin, and in the other municipalities the left has won.

The candidature of Socialist Colette Capdevielle has won a total of 40,607 votes, 62.64% of the total, and has almost doubled the results of a week ago, 22,643 votes. On the contrary, the candidate of the National Union obtained a few thousand votes more than last week - 19,308 votes against 24,221-, which represents 37.36% of the votes, that is, the left has taken almost twenty-five points of advantage to the extreme right.

Participation in this constituency has been very similar to that of the first week, so 70.72% of the citizens who were called have come to the polls.

6th electoral district: Dufau, a nationalist in Paris

The sixth district occupies most of Lapurdi, mainly the coast, from Hendaya to Biarritz. From the first round, strong rivalry was expected, especially between the macro-syndicates and the nationalists, and from a little further behind the far-right corner, the ultra-right corner looked overhead. In the first round, the Macronist Christian Devèze won the nationalist Peio Dufau by 1,800 votes, but in the second round the podium was turned around: 1,700 in favour of Dufau. Therefore, for the first time in the Fifth Republic, it will be a Basque parliamentarian and an Abertzale in Paris. A little further behind, the National Union has been left with 6,000 votes less than the New Popular Front (PPLN).

The Macronists have remained strong from San Juan de Luz to Biarritz, on the coast, except in Bidar, where they have been concentrated. Leaving this area, it is noteworthy that only in three municipalities has someone less imposed than Dufau, such as the ultraderecha: Ainhoa, with less than five votes apart, is located in Jatsun and Haltsun.

By municipality: 142 out of 160, left

The superiority of the left is palpable in Ipar Euskal Herria. From the point of view of the French State, the Left has become even clearer in the Basque Country. Translated to figures: In Lapurdi, the New Popular Front has been imposed in 30 of the 41 municipalities; in Nafarroa Beherea in 68 of 75; and in Zuberoa in 44 of 44.

According to political forces, the result is as follows: The New Popular Front has been the first force in 142 municipalities out of 160, seven in Ensemble and the National Union and four in Résistons! Party.

There have been some obvious changes from the first lap to the second. For example, in the fifth constituency, as far as the east of the capital is concerned, the National Union defeated in the first round – in Beskoitze, Milafranga, Bardoze or Bidaxun. On the contrary, in the results of last Sunday, the ultraderecha only won in Gixune, where it barely got five votes apart.

In general, if it has not been for the New Popular Front, there have been no municipalities that have changed color; the Macronists and those of the National Union have lost support and have not been imposed anywhere that did not win in the first round, and have lost municipalities.
