UEMA performs a detailed analysis of linguistic profiles in health
  • The Commonwealth of Basque Municipalities, UEMA, has analyzed in a report the linguistic data of the public health services of the municipalities of the network. The main conclusion is that three out of ten health workers in the municipalities of UEMA do not have an accredited Basque level (19% in the Osakidetza service of the CAPV and 75% in Osasunbidea of Navarra).

Moreover, in hospitals, two-thirds of workers do not have Euskera accredited, 57% in Osakidetza and 99% in Osasunbidea (almost no one).

As main conclusions, UEMA stands out for its municipalities:

  • The health centers are located in 64 locations in UEMA, with a total of 821 jobs: 669 from Osakidetza and 152 from Osasunbidea.
  • Most jobs, 89%, have a mandatory linguistic profile. But there is a difference between Osakidetza (99%) and Osasunbidea (34%).
  • As for the accreditation of these profiles, almost one in three workers has not accredited the Basque level in the municipalities of UEMA (30%). Probably in the CAPV or in Navarra Alta, there is a great verification difference:

In Osakidetza, one in five (19%) has not accredited it; in Health, three in four (75%).

  • Among the vacant positions is pediatrics: In the municipalities of UEMA there are 45 places and 11 are vacant (24%).

However, the report does not focus solely on the primary care centres of the municipalities of UEMA, as the citizens of these villages, like all others, have to go to larger hospitals (like the rest of the population) depending on the health problem.
