The Swamp Campsite opened its doors on the 29th of June and they are fully immersed in the summer season. La Zingira is a small school managed by families from September to the end of June, but in summer it regains its camping character.
The innovative project aims to combine education, nature and culture, and as last year several concerts have been organized for the summer season. According to those responsible, at the beginning of July and at the end of August there is usually little work done in Camping La Zingira, where concerts will be organized every Friday to attract the citizens of the area to the place that is lost in nature. On June 29, the Giranice opened the concert season for the Swamp, and on Friday the musical group Frank Blackfield and Band will be on stage from 19:00 to offer blues music. "Last year the concerts and children's activities were very well received and we decided to repeat them again this year."
They want to offer concerts every Friday in July and August, but since they do not have all the sessions defined, Camping La Zingira wants to make its stage available to local artists so that they can offer their music, dance or other performances in front of the public of La Zingira. Interested parties can contact the campsite by calling 682261287.
Different sources of income
The educational project Zingira has been in operation for six years, and this year the members of the project explain that they have had 29 students between 3 and 11 years old. In the opinion of those responsible, the Swamp School has a "special educational project". "All the material that can be found in traditional schools is available to children in the Swamp, but we do not pressure them, they approach these contents according to their interest, when they want." To do this, the students have four companions to accompany them in their educational process.
However, financing alternative educational projects of this type is usually "not an easy task" and educational agents have to deal with different sources of income in order to be able to progress, such as the campsite for the Swamp School is an important source of income. "With the monthly fee that families pay, we're in a hurry to cover all the expenses. For this reason, we have been renting to the Swamp all year for two years and during the summer season we manage the campsite."
In the early years of the Swamp School, families rented only part of the campsite building between September and June. "Two years ago the owner explained to us that he planned to sell or rent the campsite. We had a meeting of the parents and we decided to rent it. To do this, we have created a cooperative among families and the campsite is managed by us in the summer so that we can finance the school," explained the members of the Swamp School. However, in order for the project to be economically viable, families have to volunteer at the campsite during the summer. Parents believe that the experience so far has been positive, as the campsite has allowed them to pay rent and cover school expenses for the past two years.
