The Bionekazaritza alavesa, Ekolur in Bizkaia, Biolur in Gipuzkoa, local consumption groups and national organic production associations have announced the Ecological Summer Fairs of 2023. In total, 14 fairs have been organized in 14 different locations: Zigoitia, Zarautz and Algorta, among others.

Organic food fairs are a showcase for the diversity of organic foods. They talked about their contribution at trade fairs: “The summer eco-fair is the meeting point between environmentally friendly production professionals and consumers seeking the same commitment and the best quality of food.”

They stress that “the main challenge” is to attract citizens to the fair and make purchases at it. In fact, the fair promotes “direct selling”, which necessarily guarantees the “survival of small producers” locally and promotes “agricultural diversity”.

Increasing organic farming

Land for organic production increased in 2022 in Gipuzkoa, Bizkaia and Álava, according to the Basque Council of Agriculture and Organic Food. Last year 1,199 new hectares were certified.
