The movement that is repeated in many cities around the world has been brought to Pamplona/Iruña and since March 2019 they go to the streets every month to denounce the danger of cycling through the city and claim another type of urban organization. Tuned and maced bicycles, neon lights, music from loudspeakers, dance and laughter… dominate. “It is important to reclaim a public space in a festive atmosphere and create spaces of socialization that do not respond to the interests of the market,” said the participants in El Salton.
They have also explained that bad views have been received from some motorists, fines and police identifications for having taken the street, among other things.
“It is the politicians who design the cities according to their interests, and here their interests are mainly the private car and the Volkswagen factory, which gives jobs to half of Navarra,” says El Salton.
They are asking for safe streets, limiting the speed of cars, as there are still many motor vehicles who believe that the road is only their own. They underline the lack of awareness.
