Catalan political prisoners have arrived at the Congress of Deputies after being transferred from the Soto del Real prison. As they entered the room, the applause of the other members of the congress was imposed, although it was also possible to hear some cries that said "outside". The four politicians have greeted and embraced members and a good number of representatives of other political forces on their way to the seats, including Podemos, PSOE and Citizens.
The Members have held their posts one by one, and then the votes for the constitution of the Congress Bureau have begun. The president of the PSOE, Catalan Meritxell Batet, was elected in the second vote to preside over the Generalitat. EH Bildu voted null for “LLibertat, askatasuna” and the PNV voted in favour. One of the first decisions of the Congress Bureau will be to decide on the dismissal of prisoners of eta. Most of the sources consulted indicate that the bureau will take a decision in favour of consultation. In any event, the judge also envisages the possibility of re-referring the case to the Supreme Court.
Romeva in the Spanish Senate
For his part, Raúl Romeva has taken office in the Senate, where he died. Here too there have been applause for the politician. His family has complained about his treatment in the Senate, which has kept them isolated in a room during the opening of the session. The leader of the PSOE, Manuel Cruz, has been appointed president of the Congress of Deputies.
