Tolosaldea has called the Tolosaldea platform Osasun Publikoa Alde (TOPA) to reclaim public health. According to the organization, over 2,000 citizens have left the street in extreme health conditions in Tolosaldea. Solution now! under the slogan.

Currently, the only hospital in the region is the private clinic Asunción, which provides its services through an agreement with Osakidetza. TOPA denounces that in Tolosaldea they have worse service than in the rest of the CAPV districts: "We receive worse attention, we are also worse in infrastructure, and there comes less money than the rest."

The PNV announced on the eve of the demonstration that the public hospital in Tolosaldea will be "reality." Joseba Egibar, president of the Gipuzkoa Buru Batzar, Olatz Peon, current mayor and candidate of the Tolosa district, and Xarles Iturbe, candidate of Tolosa, attended. Egibar noted that budgets are being compromised in Parliament and that the new public hospital will be in Tolosa. It has not set a date for the hospital to start, but according to Peón, the Department of Health is preparing the Functional Plan and has received budget items of €100,000 in 2023 and €500,000 in 2024.

The TOPA said they are bored that "there is no real commitment" and that "only empty pre-election promises". "We have been receiving precarious health care for over 12 years and we see no way to solve the problem." They report that they know little about the new hospital and its functional plan. They add that they do not know the future of the Asunción Clinic and its workers.

The workers of Asunción fighting

The workers in Asunción have also participated in the mobilisation of Saturday. A "dignified convention" is being fought and the ELA and LAB trade unions are going to mobilise in May. Last week they have made two hour stoppages and from 8 to 31 May they will strike in ten days. They call on the Directorate to negotiate a convention to ensure the purchasing power of staff and to reduce working hours.
