Once the end of the summer comes (or at least I hope so) and as the beaches gradually drift away, women's breasts leave public space and return to closed jerseys and freckles.
Summer is the only season/context in which women’s breasts are accepted with a minimum degree of naturalness (and not anywhere, or with everyone’s acceptance). As a woman topless, I am very glad to see that it is becoming more and more common for girls to refuse to use the upper part of the swimsuit. Or at least feel more supported in making that decision.
I made the transition to breast exposition passively, and I have to say I still decide to do it or not depending on the place and the company, because I will enjoy and be at ease on the beach. But when I only go one, I meet a warrior who I don't find in other areas, who encourages me to take the step. As a girl, that doesn't happen to me in many places, because walking alone is often afraid and fraught with insecurity.
When I get to one of our beaches, before I get down the stairs, I look very closely at where a woman is doing topless. Once I see one, around him I see almost always another or two, if they are no more. And so I'm checking out small balances from all the rest, groups created by strangers.
Teaching breasts is a political option, let us not forget. Because there are still those who are against us, who objectify us and who want to erase the breasts.
Having chosen one of them, I approach and put the towel next door. It is. I become a member without consulting or asking for permission. Spontaneous, close support is created. Just like in sex, there's less and less clothing, more and more complicity. You have an environment that protects you, created by women you've never seen. Empowered and quiet, you listen, you read, you lie down or you rise, without heeding uncomfortable situations that may be next door.
However, the latter, unpleasant proposals, obscure looks or annoying beeps have happened to me several times. We live as women. But I've felt that the environment has resisted me and the next day I've decided to take my breasts back.
I feel like I'm not the only girl who's learned about this. I believe that the participation of those who flee from sexualization in topless has increased and I believe in the influence exerted by naked breasts, in the complicity of breasts, in the fragility of women.
It doesn't matter if you do it because you're more comfortable, because you hate the marks that remain when you tan or because you can and want to: teaching breasts is a political option, let's not forget it. Because there are still those who are against us, who object to us and who want to remove the breasts. But little by little these naked benches are even more frequent and gradually we are acquiring another public space, while guaranteeing the right of our breasts during the summer.
