The Council denies aid to the vitorian with spastic tetraparexia to buy a wheelchair
  • Janire is a 19-year-old vitorian of spastic tetraparexia, which has become small with a wheelchair, which has caused injuries to the legs and back. The purchase of a new one is very expensive (between EUR 15,000-18,000), but the Provincial Council of Álava has denied it aid for this, claiming that it does not meet the established requirements.

“The chair is its independence”

The family has been outraged, as we have read in the newspaper El Correo. The petition to the Deputation was made in July, because Janire's body has changed, has elongated, has become fatter and the chair is a fundamental tool for everyday life. “It’s her life, her independence,” the mother explains.

The Member says that it does not meet the requirements of the call for aid. The call states that the applicant must have a disability of at least 75% to move and have sufficient capacity to control the chair, in a mental and visual way, so that it does not become a risk to himself and the rest. “Janire has been using an electric chair for many years and has never had an accident, now they say it is a risk to herself and others,” the mother said.
