This weekend an event was held in the Isaba and Belagua area by the hand of SOS Himalaya. The foundation was born ten years ago in tribute to the Navarre mountaineer Iñaki Otxoa of Olza Annapurna and aims to respond to the needs of the humble people who live in the skirts of the hills of the ochomil.
To this end, they have several ongoing projects, such as the construction of a hospital in the Makalu area in the village of Seduwa. In that place, if someone becomes seriously ill, they can only be evacuated by helicopter, and if not, walk a whole day to the nearest hospital. They will also make known the progress of this project over the weekend.
On the occasion of the celebration of its tenth anniversary, among other activities, on Friday they will inaugurate the Memorial of Isaba exhibition with unknown photos of Iñaki Otxoa de Olza and will project a film by the Navarre mountaineer Iker Madoz.
On Saturday morning the IX edition of the Roncal Superior Pyrenees was held. In the afternoon, they organized a round table with the most well-known climbers who met Otxoa de Olza closely, including Horia Colibassanu, who participated in their rescue in 2008.
The rescue of Otxoa de Olza, who was finally unable to survive in the Annapurna, one of the greatest efforts that has been made in the Himalayas, is considered by many as a symbol of solidarity among the mountaineers compared to the individualistic competitive behaviors of today.
Star Observation in the Belagua Hostel Parking, Iñaki Otxoa de Olza I. Mountain March, gastronomy and crafts fair, popular food… The festival will last until Sunday afternoon in Isaba, to show its solidarity from the Bimilaicos of the Navarre Pyrenees to the Himalayan eighties.
