SOS Racism stressed in its letter of 10 April (in Spanish) that in this health crisis it is necessary to regularize migrants "so that we all have the right to be protected and to receive the official protections that all citizens have". He said that "the measures taken by the Government have made health protection difficult and left out of social aid to the most vulnerable groups". "Social protection mechanisms have been made available to society and have not been taken over by the public administration. In the state of alarm, a racist, capitalist and colonial society has become evident". In this sense, he said that the answer "must be the same, strong and firm measure".
They have pointed out that the measures adopted by the Spanish Government for migrants and those who are precarious will only help people who are already regularised or who are in progress with the regularisation procedures. These measures include the reception of migrants with training for health or agricultural workers, or support for people who, being employed in the household, have lost their jobs.
SOS Racism has pointed out that, even after confinement, the coronavirus crisis will have social and economic consequences. It therefore considers that "the regularization of these people should be seen as an emergency preventive measure to prevent this structural discrimination from continuing at the moment when our societies are beginning to rebuild".
The #Regularization ORAIN campaign on social media was launched on 13 April in the morning.
