A Member of the City Council of Gernika returns money from a trip paid by public money to his son
  • The councilor of the City Council of Guernica, Iñaki Hateño, made a trip to Cracovia accompanied by his son, who paid for his son’s trip with public money. The matter has generated controversy in the town, and EH Bila demanded his resignation. As a result, Hábito has returned 879 euros to the City Council, the amount of the travel card, according to El Correo.

Iñaki Etneno says that his son worked as a “translator” in Cracovia, which is why he collaborated. His group – a coalition formed by the independent Basque Nationalist group and the PNV – has accused EH Bila of having launched a campaign against the party of Hater “because they hate them”.

The City Council of Guernica was invited to the 73rd anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, and Iñaki Hateño attended as a representative of the City Council. The deputy admits that he invited his son because he knows English. No sign of the matter has appeared until the opposition has found in the municipal budgets a bill of 1,759.75 euros. In addition to the name of the councilman, there was also his son.

He defends himself by saying that if he had not invited his son to Krakow, he would need at least 3,000 euros to hire a professional translator. He said he saved the money.

The honourable Member's explanation has further angered the members of the EH Assembly: “One who confuses the public with the private cannot manage the money of all Guernicans. He must leave his post.”
