Switzerland investigates the former king of Spain for the $100 million allegedly given to him by the Saudi monarchy
  • The Swiss Prosecutor’s Office investigates the donation of $100 million that King Abdullah bin Adbul Aziz Al Saudi, king of Saudi Arabia, made in 2008 to former Spanish King Juan Carlos I, according to the newspaper Tribune de Genève. Of that money, he allegedly gave EUR 65 million to his former partner Juan Carlos I.ak, a Swiss woman who had a relationship with him, and a million more to his former partner, the one who died in 2015.

Juan Carlos I.ak gave money to Corinna Larsen and the other woman in 2012, after plunging her public image into an elephant hunt in Botswana. As a result of the scandal that caused this trip, private bank Mirabaud asked the king to withdraw the money he held there on behalf of the Lucum Foundation to maintain the "good reputation" of the entity.

The Swiss Prosecutor’s Office began investigating the case in 2018, coinciding with the publication of Corinna Larsen’s videos on the case. In those videos, Larsen explained that the king of Spain tried to collect a commission for the construction of the high-speed train in Mecca (Saudi Arabia).

The Prosecutor’s Office has followed that line in mosques and although it has no definitive evidence, one of the theories it manages is that the $100 million is a commission in exchange for requiring the builders of the high-speed train Juan Carlos I.ak to lower their price. Larsen's lawyers have denied this theory, as the monarch bolted the money in 2008 and the project was launched in 2009.
