Sardinian is the first official language in history
  • The law on the conversion of Sardinian into an official language has been approved by 25 votes in favour and 20 against in the Sardinian Regional Committee.

The purpose of the Act is to protect the Sardinian language and to promote intergenerational transmission. The regional councillor, Paolo Zedda, said that “it is an important step towards being a bilingual public administration”.

In the future, the Sardinian language will be included in education, they want to establish spelling rules and the Councillor will invest 3.2 million euros to support the development of the Sardinian language.

According to Giuseppe Dessena, responsible for culture, “language is the most felt identity of a people”.
