Sami has been struggling for years with life-threatening wind mega projects. In fact, on 11 October 2021, the Norwegian Supreme Court ruled that two out of six projects comprising the megacentral Fosen Vind, involving 52% of the Norwegian public company Statkraft in Trøndelag County, violate the rights of Njaarke snow pastors in Fovs. Although the ruling is firm, wind turbines have not been demolished and are operating normally. As a result, on 23 February 2023, a group of Sami youth decided to hold the seat of the Ministry of Oil until they were expelled by the police.

Karlos Zurutuza explained in this ARGIA report Sami’s fight against the Statkraft wind power plant.

Sami is a town that is building alliances with global struggles, like the Mapuche facing a hydroelectric power plant that is driving Statkraft itself in Chile. On this occasion, the exchange of experiences will take place with groups that have emerged in the villages against the model of renewable megaprojects in the Basque Country.

Lectures in Azpeitia and Aramaio

Eva Fjellheim will offer two conferences under the title "Green colonialism of Sami territory, wind energy and climate justice":

These talks are organized by the UPV/EHU, Ekopol, Aramaio Bizirik, Sañu Bizirik and the Euskal Herria Bizirik initiative, convened on 20 May.
