  • The Ecologistas en Acción team, environmental agencies and several researchers have come together to create a new application. The tool will allow consumers to be aware of the toxic substances in the products they buy.

The app is part of the Life Ask REACH project. It will read the barcode of the products through the mobile phone scanner and then indicate to the user whether the product is toxic or not. It will be made public in 2019.

Ecologistas en Acción points out that the use of certain toxic substances “harmful to health and the environment” is common. It also adds that the information that companies provide about the product is scarce.

Some foods and cosmetic products reveal their composition, although often this information is “hidden or unreadable.” On the other hand, in clothes, toys and furniture, it is almost impossible to find such a thing.

Therefore, companies are using toxic substances without consumers realizing it. The members of Ecologistas Launch say that the new application wants to change this situation.
