In an interview at Radio Vitoria, Artozabal announced that the Basque Government will set up a public institution for the reinsertion of prisoners in view of this scenario to be held in Euskadi in October. The organization has announced that it will act as a bridge between society and prisoners: “May society help these people, in many cases, stigmatized and previously tried. On the other hand, convicted persons must also commit to social inclusion and maintain a proactive attitude.”
Artozabal has linked the name of the institution, Aukerak, to prisoners with the granting of a "second chance". As he explained, Aukerak will train prisoners “based on their vocations and skills” and promote “semi-freedom” situations that make it possible. “Among the activities to be carried out are the creation and management of productive workshops that employ prisoners, as well as the commercialization of products or services carried out,” the counsellor explained.
