- The Supreme Court has argued that independence prisoners have shown no regrets for what they have condemned to prison. The final decision on the judgment will be taken by the Government of Spain and the President of the Spanish State has said that "friendship" and "lack of revenge" will be taken into account.
The court that issued the judgment on the referendum in Catalonia, the Spanish Supreme Court, has opposed both political prisoners and the pardon of the other convicted persons. The court finds that the penalties imposed "have not violated the principle of propolity" and that there is no reason to justify pardons. In addition, the Supreme has stressed that the defendants have not shown "even the slightest sign of repentance" in making their position known.
To this end, the magistrates of the Supreme have taken advantage of the phrase of Justice Jordi Cuixart in which they claim that "we will do again". Cuixart replied, "in defence of democracy and the right to self-determination, we will never give up fundamental rights, non-violent protest and civil disobedience. There are no distractions: yesterday, today and whenever necessary we will do it again."

The President of the Spanish State, Pedro Sánchez, has spoken before the Supreme published his report on pardon. Regarding the requests for pardon, he said that the government will not be guided by "friendship" but by "punishment" to decide "for the coexistence of all Spaniards".
