Specifically, in nine years there has been an increase of 59.6% of students with special needs in the educational centers of the CAPV, attributed by the Board of Education to the progress in their detection and diagnosis. In addition, the Vice-Counselor says that screening programs are becoming increasingly early in the age. Bildarratz announces that the next course will be 65 more PT teachers.
Another hot point in the report presented by the counsellor in the Committee on Education of the Basque Parliament is the results of diagnostic evaluations. These are the results of the evaluations carried out by the students of the 6th grade of Primary and 4th grade of Compulsory Secondary Education in the course 2021-2022, and have been contrasted by the Basque Government with those of 2018, previously only in 2018. In the field of languages, at the end of the FP competition in Basque remains “stable” and has improved slightly in English; at the end of the ESO competition in Basque is somewhat better and the results of 2018 are similar in Spanish and English.
In IE, EP and ESO, the number of students studying in model D is over 90% in public schools. Bildarratz notes that model D is spreading more and more in the concerted centres, but the rise is slower.
In the rest of the competencies, the students at the end of FP have suffered a slight setback, especially in the scientific competences, and in the ESO they have noticed a slight setback in mathematics. A mistake prevents them from measuring their scientific capacities.
Girls have had better results than boys in most subjects, especially in Basque and English, and boys get better results in mathematics, but in recent studies the difference has decreased considerably.
School failure
Early school leaving was 4.8% in 2021. The advisor clarifies that it is 9.7% in Europe and 13.3% in Spain. Bildarratz highlighted that most students extend their educational itinerary to higher education, with 16 years 98.7% of students continuing in school, with 17 years 95.5% of students.
The counselor has emphasized the influence of the household sociocultural panorama; 67% of students who repeat the course are studying in a center with a low socioeconomic and cultural index.
There is a growing number of students who launch both Vocational Training and University. The next course will increase the number of Vocational Training students by 9.1%, while the public and private universities of the CAPV have achieved 28,000 more students in ten years.
The report has been a step forward, since it only takes into account the results of 22% of CAPV schools. Education counselor Jokin Bildarratz has announced a more comprehensive report with the results of all centers that receive public money next fall.
