- Palestinian poet Darin Tatour has been sentenced to five months in prison and six months in prison for writing a poem on Facebook denouncing the Israeli occupation, according to the Palestinian news agency Maan. Israeli judges have accused him of “glorifying and promoting the terrorist organization.”
Tatour had already been imprisoned for two years and eight months in house and prison for writing poems.
He replied that he found the decision "unfair" and that there was no reason to judge him. However, the Nazarene poet adds that the verdict has not surprised him.
He says he does not trust the Israeli justice system and denounces that his detention is politically motivated: "Democracy only applies to one kind of people in this country," he said, denouncing the discrimination faced by Palestinians in Israel.
Tatour was previously arrested in October 2015 on charges of "promoting violence and supporting the terrorist organization." The poem that has been penalized can be read in English on the ArabLit website on Arabic literature: "Face it, my people, face it."
