Trade unions will call a plante at the CAV educational centres if the Basque Government does not negotiate the conditions for ensuring health
  • In a joint communiqué, the unions today considered that returning to schools from 18 May would be "an absolute irresponsibility" because the conditions for ensuring health are not met. They say that the Basque Government's plan "only meets general safety criteria that are short", so, if conditions are not negotiated, "workers will not return to classrooms".

The unions have denounced that the plan presented by the Basque Government has not been drawn up with the education community and that it has left many questions in the air. Now, the unions LAB, STEILAS, ELA, CCOO and UGT have published a joint statement warning that returning to this situation is unreasonable because “the health of workers and students, and by extension of the whole society, would be at serious risk”.

The request is clear: “The unions demand that the Department of Education not implement the plan to open schools by ensuring health with workers’ representatives until it is in a position to negotiate and enable the conditions for the classroom return to the centers.”

In the coming days, the trade unions will contact the other educational actors to analyse the possibilities for a joint response.
